A Place for Military Wives Whose Lives Have Been Affected by the Iraq War

Thank you for visiting our site. We hope for this site to be safe haven to share our stories, experiences and concerns with one another. Being the wife of an Active Duty Servicemember or Reservist can be challenging.

Being married to a War Veteran will be a part of your life for many years to come.

We hope that in sharing our unique experiences and stories that we can inspire one another and help each other through the difficult times we are faced with and challenged with.

Though we are not deployed and facing challenges overseas we do wage our own battles and are faced with challenges back home while our spouse is deployed and in the years to follow after his return from combat.

Dear Wives of Iraq War Veterans,

We are a unique group of women who are called to serve in our everyday lives. Though we may not carry weapons or march in combat boots we too are waging this war. It is time that our voices be heard and we come together. We are a generation of women who have been blessed with many opportunities that many Veteran's wives before us did not have. These opportunities and the knowledge and wisdom passed down by those who served in other wars give us the guidance and strength to answer the challenges we have been faced with during this war and in the years to come.

Being the wife of a Veteran is a lifelong commitment and will be something that will not simply go away. Your husband will always be a Veteran and whether or not you experienced the war by his side or maybe you met him years after his combat experiences this is a part of him that you may never understand, but have to be patient with.

As I sit here and write this there is so much I want to say and so much I want to share. I guess first and foremost I know that as Wives of Veterans we have a bond that no one else, only we, can understand! A lot of responsibility falls upon us in our lives and will continue to be a part of who we are for the rest of our lives.

Understand that standing by your Veteran is very important and he needs your strength. Believe that you have this strength in you! And if you find that you need a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on- Do not be afraid to ask for help! You do not have to go through this alone.

Follow your heart, you have the strength. Love is patient, Love is Kind.

God Bless,
Noelle Jewell-Dumeny
Wife of USMC Veteran, OIF, OIFII
